Woman captures domestic abuse in 'a photo a day' video
The heart-wrenching video entitled "One Photo a Day in The Worst Year of my Life", features a woman who appears to be a victim of violence and takes a picture of herself everyday for an entire year. Whether the video is real or is part of a domestic violence campaign is unclear.
i went back to youtube to see if i could find more to the story. i didnt read "more" on the youtube page. and i would really hate to mislead with such a compelling video. so take it for what it is.
third edit: http://www.democraticunderground.com/125528869#post12 . this is a abuse campaign. lumberjack jeff brought some good information into this thread. as i said in another post, i am not a fan in not clearly posting campaign as opposed to reality. but... i still think it is a good video for those of us that have never experienced domestic violence.

(39,154 posts)No, it never made it any better when I was actually prosecuting either. I really hate men like that. Cowardice. Betrayal of trust, of oaths if they were married. That's on top of the physical pain and constant fear and humiliation on the part of the victim.
He doesn't love you. If he did, he would not do this. It's not you, it's him.
Call the police. Use the law to be rid of him.
If the law won't listen, then flee. Take the kids with you. No, it isn't right, but it is better than ending up dead.
Because that is what will eventually happen. He will kill you.
Whatever the financial repercussions are for turning him in, they are better than ending up as a corpse.

(111,255 posts)and thank you for any of the scumsucking cowards you managed to put into prison.
The photos show escalating violence very clearly. It always does escalate, if not against the woman, then against their children.

(39,154 posts)I had to defend the convictions of major felonies when the defense appealed, so I got the worst case. A lot of these domestic abuse cases only came to our attention because friends or emergency room personnel reported injuries that were too serious to hide. In a lot of those cases, the victims recanted and testified for the defense, but there was no way to explain away the injury photos, xrays, and testimony of those who saw the injuries.

(33,224 posts)Telegraph.ru has a story on their site reports that the subject is philologist, translator and model Mia Hujić.
This was a video campaign created by the anti-domestic-violence organization, Sigurna kuća, which means Safe House in Croatian.

(39,154 posts)Helps deconstruct the myth that violence only happens to poor, uneducated women.

(33,224 posts)Mia Hujić, who played the abused girl in the video, says she decided to help the campaign because she had friends who had faced domestic violence.
I had an opportunity to present those people, women and men, and to start something, even if it was only a video. It does not matter if it was my face or a face of a woman who was really beaten but had not strength to show it, because who would want to show up beaten in front of a camera. This is a very sensitive issue, I have invested a lot in this and I hope that such a reaction of the people, which is extraordinary three million in just five or six days, will remain after the statement that this is a campaign for chances, big changes, Hujić said.
Direct Media PRs Marija Grulović says the company tried to contribute to the raising the awareness of the public and that this was the reason they joined the campaign.

(111,255 posts)I suspected it was a model but I've seen the real thing often enough in friends and coworkers that I wasn't quite sure.
It captured the escalation of domestic violence beautifully. I wish they'd show it everywhere. It is everybody's problem.

(110,159 posts)there were points in it that had all of us sit up and notice. so though a creation, it is illustrated correctly that allows us to recognize more, visually, what goes on.

(110,159 posts)i got to the poster that wanted to know if she left the man. i went back into youtube to see if there was more info. you have to open up "more" and i put it in my thread. then later lumberjack came in with this info. i update a third time
sorry. i thought they should have made it clear, too. not a fan of this.

(33,224 posts)It was a PSA made for the serbian organization dealing with domestic violence in that country to graphically portray the harm.
When it leapt to viral video, I think the context was lost.
For disambiguation, the video probably should have incorporated the logo of the organization or a link I suppose.

(110,159 posts)the info. that is how powerful it is that it took off like that.

Then, at the end my jaw dropped. What was extremely bad became horrific and depraved. That bastard needs a taste of his own medicine - perhaps an overdose if said medicine.

I went looking and found tons of "real ones" I don't think anyone would appreciate my posting them here.

(110,159 posts)experienced things like this. i went back looking when a poster asked if she left the man. that is when i saw i needed to hit more, to get more of the story. i do appreciate the info lumberjack brought to this thread. and i will update again.
but... though i do not like false leads, and i think it should have been clearly marked, i think it is important to see.

(41,977 posts)Including one where the photographer was highly criticized for not stopping the abuse, I just posted a thread about Donna Ferrato, who has been documenting abuse for years
