Imagery and institutionalized sexism.

Now that I've caught your attention, allow me to share something that's been bugging me for a while:

Every once in a while, I have cause to go to Target, and every time, I notice the pictures they have around the clothing sections. With very little exception (one that technically doesn't fit), every single photo fits into one of two categories:

Women (or girls) sitting or lying down.
Men (no boys) doing something active.

The one exception to this is a woman looking like she might be getting ready to do yoga, but if not for the active wear, it would just be another picture of a woman sitting.

Argh!

My family used to go to Target a lot when I was young, so I'm desensitized, so-to-speak. laconicsax May 2012 #3

The lighting/atmosphere/air/something, immediately puts me off. I find myself angry, aggressive and then depressed- all within an hour's grocery shopping trip. It took me about three trips before I realized that store put me in a funk like no other. I really don't know what it is, but our local Target is almost like it's toxic for me.
