the book for the bookclub choice is One Thousand White Women: The Journals of May Dodd.
i looked in our libraries and we have one copy. to give others an idea whether the library carries it. libraries also have intra library loan which now costs us $3.45 ish. it used to be free. ah, well. that can take up to two weeks to get.
i checked my kindle and the price $9.99. barnes and noble is $10.98. i checked the stock at barnes and noble, and they have a copy there. i also saw used for .99, though those would have to be ordered.
there are also plenty of used on amazon for a buck. and four dollar shipping.
women, ... this is now little stars baby. she is going to organize the reading the book.
if anyone has any problem getting a copy, please pm me. i want everyone to participate that wants to participate. dont let anything hold you back.
edit.... how long do you women think we need to get the book, before we start the discussion. we really are new to this, so we need some feed back.... june 1st, this friday, or june 15 a little more time to get the book?

(2,323 posts)I requested it from my library. There are six hold on 10 copies (one is mine). It must be really good. I didn't expect so many people to be reading it since it was published in 1998.
As an aside: seabeyond is catching! I had to go back and Capitalize all my i's.
seabeyond
(110,159 posts)that is funny.
i am surprised too. i had better get on it and ask for a hold myself.

(102,141 posts)Tallulah had me very well trained and I'm still waking up very early. Unfortunately, I'm sort of chicken about going out that early for a walk as I used to do with her, so I guess I can try to read the first chapter.
seabeyond
(110,159 posts)does your house seem quiet? it was hard walking into the house when i first lost my dog. the engery and feel is still there.
sigh...
i hear ya.
hlthe2b
(102,141 posts)In her last year of life, I knew she could go downhill quickly at any time, so I would jump out of bed to check on her, if she didn't come wake me first, always feeling that sense of relief when she would look up, seemingly fine. So, waking up is tough now... way too quiet. She was a herding dog, so sometimes I still feel as though I can sense her nudging and nuzzling my legs as she would do to get me going? And, I still find myself wanting to save a morsel of two of what I was eating for her, as I often would do.
Yes, it's pretty tough... Thanks for asking.
seabeyond
(110,159 posts)i hope you get it.
