Woman slams sexist shirt; Twitter douchebags tell her to kill herself. Worst offender?

Woman slams sexist shirt; Twitter douchebags tell her to kill herself. Worst offender? A contributor to A Voice for Men

Very cool: We humans have landed a space probe on a goddamned comet!

Not cool: when one European Space Agency dude gave an interview about the landing, he was wearing a shirt festooned with cheesecake images of scantily clad women.

Even less cool: when Atlantic magazine science writer Rose Eveleth pointed out that this choice of attire doesn’t exactly broadcast the message that women (other than scantily clad ones) are welcome in STEM, she received a torrent of abuse from angry Twitter dudes, including requests for her to kill herself.

The cherry atop this crap sundae? The nastiest Twitterer of the bunch, who not only went after Eveleth but her defenders as well, is a regular contributor to A Voice for Men.

The whole thing started off with a couple of tweets from Eveleth about the shirt. Here’s one of them:

No no women are toooootally welcome in our community, just ask the dude in this shirt.

He was one of the most violent ones on Twitter about it. I'm sure he'll be dropped soon. Many women and many men gave him what-for in return. I am thankful that for all the ignorant, dangerous people in the world, there are still decent people who will stand up to them.

Seriously, men: You need to stop making things about you, and your feelings, and how rebel your gross shirt is. Science doesn't care.

Best thing about being a robot is no one tells me to die for commenting on some jag wearing a sexist shirt. @roseveleth IS AN INTERNET HERO.

That shirt was given to him by a woman friend of his who couldn't comprehend what all the fuss was about.

he is playing at that time before the sexual harassment laws in the workplace and then whines....

what did i do. and those mean feminists. look at them get all frazzled and hysterical over nothing. really really, i do not get it. so fuckin clueless.

when we all know that is bullshit.

allowed pin up on your office wall? or just the work place attire?

i would have a chat with HR so they could have a chat with a man, that willfully breaks company rules and fed laws, cause he wants us all to play in his porn.

But as usual, the psychotically over-the-top response to the complainant has made me choose sides in a hurry.

In an online news update giving the latest information about the mission on Friday, he said he had made "a big mistake", and that he was "very sorry".

He wore wore a stupid looking shirt, yeah it was sexist -- an American version of a Hawiian shirt with 'hula girls' on it. A number of men are putting on something worse very day. No it doesn't please me.

I blame the Internet assholes who told a woman who critized the shirt that she should kill herself-- among other things. Internet harassment is far too common-- this guy got caught in the crossfire.
