#1 yes, STUPID should be hidden because DU is not a STUPID message board. Raise the level of discussion, please. Stupid, short-sighted, greedy people is a lot of the reason why this country/nation/world is in the shape it is in. Do us all a favor and hide STUPID.

I detest Coulter for her politics, but I wouldn't think about commenting on her looks or sex-appeal. That's puerile as well as sexist.

Bigoted posts like that need to be on a two or three strike basis. One comment puts you on probation for a long period of time, two/three in that period gets you banned after a review from MIRT. There should be little tolerance of bigotry. I understand saying something stupid once in a while, so not all hides should be used for this, but bigotry is not something that should go off the record easily. It contributes to a lot of nastiness on this site.
