what are the results of trashing a thread

I have decided to trash any thread i deem to be refighting the last primary. My criteria are; if the thread has disparaging remarks of either of our candidates it will be trashed.
Does this do anything of consequence?

If you've been pissed off enough to post in it and somebody replies, you'll see your post and the reply under "my posts."

I've trashed more threads in the last two days than I did in the previous two years. Of course, I had the candidate forums trashed, also.

It helps to prevent throwing my hands up and leaving as does another feature I use. The problem now is that the refighting, and other behaviors (that if I were to point out would likely cause this post to be flagged) have gotten to the point that I will leave again anyway. The shit is tiresome. Inevitability it always ends up this way.
