(4,919 posts)Welcome, JustThinking...
K or kicked bumps a thread to the top for those viewing latest replies. It's used by folks who think a thread merits more attention.
N/T is no text... This is an old school courtesy to explain to readers that there is no additional text beyond the subject line, so don't bother clicking the message.

(149,611 posts)I think I can help.
When you respond to a post, your action causes the post to rise nearer the top of whatever group or forum it's in. Rising is the response to kicking! The next time you answer someone else's post, you'll see it get kicked.
n/t means "no text." This means that someone has written something just in the reply title box. There won't be any text in the message text box. Some people don't know how to use n/t, and they put it in the message text box. This is doing it wrong! However, it's not that big a deal.
Alerting is something I"m less clear about. You can alert on a post if you think it's inappropriate. That's how they know about it. They sent an alert. You can't do anything about it. A jury decides what to do, I think. I've opted out of jury service so I don't see that part of it. Sorry I can't help more!

(17,651 posts)Aloha.
Whats it like living in a rural conservative community?
I wish we could take the meaning of the word conservative back because the right wing is in no way conservative. They dont conserve anything.

(25,183 posts)I wonder if any thought has been given to including a glossary for the abbreviations used.

(8,543 posts)(Quite a bit of it is outdated, but a lot of the terms about forum stuff is still relevant. e.g. kick, n/t)
The old DU2 software allowed for an open edit thread where multiple members could post and edit the information - which made maintaining a glossary a community effort. Unfortunately the current software has no such feature.
DUer AmyStrange also compiled a glossary hosted on her own website:
http://dug.amystrange.org/index.html
Although that hasn't been updated in years, and Amy hasn't posted here for a long time either.
We could use a glossary and also a FAQs thread here, but someone will have to volunteer to collate and/or coordinate such efforts.
