Help with the Sound of Music
I have not had any sound on DU for the past couple months. Really aggravating. I can't figure out what I did to deserve this, or how to make it come back.
Help please. I've posted about it a couple times previously. ![]()

1. On DU only?
...or across the board?

5. YouTube and Twitter post videos?
The reason I ask is because they are (I think) the only media sources that can be played directly from a DU post:
Link to tweet ?s=20 So, do you hear sound from either? |

6. When you mouse over the video, you should see a speaker icon
![]() ![]() Is there an X thru it? |

8. Happens to me all the time, but it remembers your last choice
If you muted it for the last video, all subsequent videos will be muted.

10. Troubleshooting software is my gig.
...although my next gig might be selling coffee and water.

12. Nope, that was the first thing I checked.
The symbol is there, with no X.

13. In site settings options, there's a choice to 'mute site' or add a site to 'mute' list.
(?)

14. That sounds promising
But I can't find anything for site settings. Its not under My Account.
Where, please? |

15. It's not listed under 'DU' or 'My Account'. It's wherever you customize 'permissions' ...
I find 'Site-Settings' listed as a sub-heading of 'Privacy and Security' and then see a list of 'permissions' including 'mute site sound'

16. Sorry to say, that didn't work either, Donkees
The closest thing I can find under privacy or security, was something under "Multi-media". I did check sound under that. Do you think it might work if my system was rebooted?
Really appreciate your help. |

17. Here is an excerpt from one of the 'how to geek' pages showing how to "mute''...
so there must be instructions for 'unmuting'. I'm not very techy, but maybe this page will offer a better explanation of where the problem is hiding (?)
https://www.howtogeek.com/324568/how-to-automatically-mute-new-tabs-in-chrome-and-firefox/ Under the “Privacy and security” section, click “Content settings.” Click “Sound.”

18. Late to the party
Are you on a computer? Which browser are you using?
If Firefox, right click anywhere on the page to get the context menu, then select "View Page Info". Then go to the Permissions tab and make sure that Autoplay is selected, or 'Use default'. |

19. Google Chrome
And DU is the only site that does this. My tech guy wondered if maybe the powers-that-be did an upgrade that changed settings?
I will try with another browser though. Thanks! |

20. IT WORKED!!
It worked! It worked! It worked!
Opened in Firefox, and now I have sound back. I'm thrilled! ![]() ![]() Although I still don't understand why this happened with Chrome, and only on DU. |

21. Me neither
It may be a chrome page setting - I don't use it much.
But either way, I'm thrilled that you're thrilled. ![]() |
