I hope DU is taking battle hardening measures to prevent another 2016
Russia helped take Hillary Clinton down in 2016 and on election night Democratic Underground too.
We have to assume they and their anti-democratic counterparts across America and the globe will be attacking democratic sites with increasing vengeance over the next 40 days. Let's do what's necessary to thwart them this time around. Viva DU! ![]()

2. This site was down on election night in 2016.
The hack was so profound that it took days to restore many features.
Some membership data was so vandalized that it could not be recovered. It was a humiliating and catastrophic breach, deliberately caused at a momentously distressing time. Was it ever determined who did that to DU? And were criminal charges ever brought? |

4. Yes, I remember it well. I was on DU.
It was precisely 1:00 pm PST and the screen suddenly did a topsy turvy and I saw some words flash onscreen (don't recall what they were) and the screen went dark. I logged off my computer, hoping it was just some weird glitch and rebooted. But of course rebooting didn't help at all.
