3. You could subscribe to the Announcements forum, then you'd get a yellow tab.

Although if you already subscribe to a lot of Groups, it might not act as much of an alert depending on how often your 'My Subscriptions' tab gets lit up.

I just got a 524 Error a minute ago. Are error numbers like the DEFCON alert scale and a 524 is less severe than a 520? Hmmm...

Error 520: web server returns an unknown error

Error 520 occurs when the origin server returns an empty, unknown, or unexpected response to Cloudflare.

Error 524: a timeout occurred

Error 524 indicates that Cloudflare successfully connected to the origin web server, but the origin did not provide an HTTP response before the default 100 second connection timed out.

It looks like you're getting the silent treatment and I'm being sent to voicemail.

or rather I thought the main forums were already subscribed so I just tried it, then after I marked that forum read, all the little icons except that one's disappeared.

I just checked and marked AZ read and it reappeared as a grey file. some kind of cache issue?

9. Uh-oh! Now you've broken DU even more.

Those folder images are coded in the main CSS stylesheet as background images for the forum listings. Them not displaying may be related to the Cloudfare connection issues if the images weren't already cached by your browser.

I'm guessing the problem fixed itself by now. If not, here are the image URLs to see if you can grab them from the DU website directly without any errors:

I've experienced that disappearing folder icon issue on my Windows laptop before occasionally - I assumed it had something to do with my user script/CSS changing the color from yellow to blue. Anyway, it usually started working normally without intervention after a minute or two, so I never investigated it.

I don't think the DU software allows you to subscribe to the big forums because it would just make your 'My Subscriptions' tab yellow all the time and also would cause unnecessary work for the DU servers. The Announcements forum seems to be the exception since they rarely start threads in there.

Happy Pi Day! (3/14)

There's a pie shop a couple blocks from here that has crazy specials every Pi Day - there's usually a line a half a block long outside. It took me a minute or two to figure out what the crowd was all about the first year they opened - it's not like Pi Day is a holiday. I'm not sure what the line is like this year though - haven't ventured out to see.

I wasn't sure whether it was at my end or at DU. It's a relief to know it's not me, lol.

it rebels sometimes so I tend to assume it is getting revenge when weird things happen.
