Just got a new weird response loading a page

1. That was happening to me last night (early in the AM).

It happened several times. I am not sure what was going on, but when I tried other pages they loaded fine, except a few other sites which also gave the same message. So, I am not sure what was happening.

I tried other sites and they all loaded fine - except for DU and GasBuddy (local gas prices).

3. On my laptop, I experienced a glitch whereby DU would not load for a few minutes.

The glitch occurred a few minutes ago, but DU is loading fine now.

4. I was getting these too, late last night. I couldn't call up DU.

It finally resolved itself after a couple of hours, I have no idea what caused it.

6. This was only once

On 1 thread, no other problems now …

Normally I get a single line of text : error 504
Or something…

The message was in color headings, various size texts and fonts, entirely new to me ..

7. I got that error message too when I tried to call up DU - after a fairly long wait

I thought maybe it was taking too long to upload? And it happened every time I tried over a couple of hours.

Cloudflare is a content delivery network or CDN – a system of many fast servers running from different places across the globe. Since being geographically closer to a server often leads to faster loading speeds, CDNs ensure that anyone loading a website from anywhere happens at a reasonable speed.

Cloudflare had an outage today and that was the error message you receive when that happens.

And learned more than I can comprehend… I remember reading here yesterday about issues with yahoo email/ cloudfare … but didn’t see DU connections involved till now

They misconfigured a small rollout of new tech updates, and it buggered the interwebs for millions. It's getting better now.

12. Cloudflare is more than a content delivery network.

A CDN relieves the load from client's web servers by caching content here and there, but they also provide DOS protection (Denial of Service) from bots and enemies trying to take sites down by hammering on them.

That said, they can glitch, and put you on a s**tlist if someone on your network segment is misbehaving, perhaps infected and running malware/botnet software.

I think they wanted me to solve a CAPTCHA (aka eye test) now and then. Not my cup of tea, but a site admin needs to have some defense against attacks.

Not aware of the others.
