Related: About this forumSomeone called me a troll...
This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by hunter (a host of the DU Community Help forum).
Someone called me a troll, and I reported the post.
A short while later, I received an "AUTOMATED MESSAGE: Results of your alert" mail.
The jury result was "2-4 to LEAVE IT ALONE." and one of the jury members also repeated the troll remark.
While I have been here for only a relative short while, every single one of my post has been, in mind opinion, constructive and in no way trollish.
What are my options now? May I resubmit the report, or may I appeal it?
Thanks.

(15,789 posts)And appeal it to the Internet.
There must have been something wrong with that jury.
Meanwhile, this belongs in meta, where it will do just fine.

(2,208 posts)We are inconsistent, and often knee-jerkish.
We can be nasty and short-sighted, we can be generous and forgiving.
We can be goofy, we can be silly, we can be mean-spirited.
I wouldn't take it personally, I would let it go at this point.
Sometimes you'll get away with being trollish, sometimes you'll get innocent posts removed due to a misunderstanding. DU isn't quite as anything-goes as the internet at large, there are things that will not stand at all, ever. However, sometimes things that shouldn't stand are allowed to because of our fickleness. In your case I would chalk it up to humans being imperfect creatures, and move on. There are worse things in life than being called a troll by some anonymous poster on some internet discussion forum. Maybe the jury didn't get this one right. It's not really a big deal in the scheme of things...

(59,147 posts)Once a post has been adjudicated, it will not be juried again.
You could howwever put the person on ignore. Just click on their name and hit the ignore button.

(53,061 posts)A word of advice, this is a discussion forum and no one hear expresses themselves perfectly.
It is in the ebb and flow of conversations that you will be defined, not by any one post.
There is a reason that someone, accurately or inaccurately, thought you might be a troll.
They weren't being malicious as much as noticing a pattern whereby trolls come here in large numbers and after making a few posts start threads where they can express 'concern' about the President, his campaign, or the Party. Their objective is to trigger negativity and contentious discussions.
Rather than starting threads expressing a general concern you might find it more helpful to take a particular news item or policy and post your opinion on that.
Good Luck.

(13,184 posts)Just depends on how drunk the random anonymous jurors are.

(37,648 posts)if they agree w/the substance of the post of the guy who name called troll. They simply ignore the rules, if they like the offending post's ultimate message.
Not all jurors, of course. Just some.
I also saw a post once reference that he was noting the author of a post, so that he could take revenge as a juror on any alerts that may come his way on that poster (meaning he would always vote to hide the posts).
I try to play by the rules. I hope I do that. Even if I like the offending poster's message, if they cross the line, I vote to hide. Even if I hate the offending poster's message, but it didn't cross the line or break the rules, I vote to leave it.

members need a refresher on what not to call fellow members. We support Obama's policies here because he is the democratic leader right now. Just because you don't see eye to eye with someone doesn't mean they are a troll, as long as they promote democratic ideals. We Are A Big Tent!

(10,044 posts)Some groups are safe havens for people who share the same view about topics or people. If you disagree, better to go to General Discussion or even The DU Lounge and try there.
I post a lot in Fiction, and if you came in and said that all folks who read fiction are morons, you'd probably get an alert, even if you are right

(27,551 posts)I've been called worse, and chased around and harassed and my response is to block the person rather than report it. As somebody says above, DUers can be inconsistent and I can't be bothered fretting about what a few people think of me. On the other hand, I will alert if somebody is getting one somebody else's a** b/c I'm community-minded that way.

(34,195 posts)In a response to one of my first posts on DU a reply seemed to agree with my post,
but ended his/her reply by calling me "DUM".
Having posted a number of sites over a number of years, I just shrugged it off.
There will always be those people who are online only to try and pull others down,
in an attempt to make themselves feel superior.
By replying to their insults or complaining, you are only giving them the attention they crave.
If you ignore them, they'll find another target and leave you alone.
