I'm new.

I can figure out how to use excerpt, link, blockquote, etc.

How do I post either a static visual image, or a video clip from news coverage, youtube video, etc.?

Thanks..........I'm slowly exploring DU, after someone very nicely linked a blog post of mine. I feel as if I've sort of fallen into or backed into posting and commenting here, but I like it!

1. Photo posting is easy

Just use a website like Photobucket and upload it and paste the URL to the photo in your post.
In other words, DU is not like Facebook in that you can not upload directly from your computer to DU.

Other things like links to Youtube, etc.... just paste the URL. I get the best results when I use the Share button in Youtube and paste that link. Some people paste the browser address and it adds extra crap in front and after the video. Kinda picky but...

I don't currently use photobucket, but I assume that any url for a photo will work.

3. If you are using "any url for a photo..."

... make sure the site you are hot-linking to allows that, and maybe more importantly, that it's not the sort of site that would change the picture after you've linked to it.

Some sites don't allow hot-linking and will display a graphic scolding the poster for the hot-link.

Worse, we've seen disreputable sites replacing inoffensive humor pictures with porn, etc.

Always check the source of any picture you hot-link to, or better yet, use a reputable photo sharing site.

I think I may have accidentally clicked on 'ignore this member', when that is NOT at all what I want to do.

How does one undo that, or un-ignore someone? Oh dear........

5. Trying to get photos to work the way I want them within the text

I'm still experimenting, but I hope to provide content that is as interesting as the nom de plume.
The best way to learn for me seems to be by doing.
