This has probably answered before...many times..

But how does one get a star?

Seems that my posts get ignored without one. No matter if it a good post or even a sorry one. Seems to me that it turns out to be an exlusive club. Pay to play? I seriousy hope that isn't the case. Really, I do. Because this is a forum that should include everyone. Some may not have the means to pay the toll.

So, what does having a star mean? That your status is better than others? If not, why is it there? Why is that a symbol of support or intelligence? This is a thought that is indicitive of Repugs. If you ain't got the to the money, then you are not worth it.

If stars mean something to you, because they indicate who is contributing financially to your website....then that is a means to shame those that don't have the means to do so, but have opinions that are significant, worthwhile and worthy of being heard.

Stars be damned!

Ban me. I don't care! I like being here, but I don't NEED to be here. I don't need a star. I have my own mind, my own intellect, my own sensibilities. And, I don't feel that I should have a "star" to confirm that.

First, how to get a star: Click on the tab "My Account" at the top of the page. There you will see among other tabs, the one that says "Star Account." Click that one, and there will be directions.

You do not have to have one, far from it. It's not "Pay to Play." The star gives you some benefits. The ads disappear, which for me is the main one. You can have more people on your Jury Blacklist. And so on. When you click the "Star Account" all the benefits are listed there.

It is a symbol of support for the website. This is one of the ways that the Admins make their income.

Your opinions are always worthy of being heard. You may be having a hard time getting heard because you're relatively new.

You won't be banned for your feelings. And you certainly don't have to have a star to confirm that you have your own mind, your own intellect, or your own sensibilities.

I'm glad you're here...

I certainly want to support this forum. I should have read up on how to do that, but I was too caught up in the oh-so-many threads that I just didn't spend time to figure the membership thingy out.

I appreciate the information.

Thanks again,

Sofie

donate star memberships to other DU-ers. I've had several years' worth of memberships donated to me, although I'm now paying for my own.

I think thoughtfulness & selflessness like that is indicative of the type of people we have here at DU.

I hope you'll stick around; it's a great place to hang out...

Many of us always have our posts ignored. Your star won't help that much. It is nothing short of amazing how many posts sink with only a few views. I think it has a great deal to do with the art of the headline. Be persistent, and don't take it personally. It's just the nature of the beast.
