Slashes in signature. How do I get rid of them?

Hyphens and quotes end up looking like sthis in the signature line. \\\ Like, I\'m. If I delete them, they just reappear. I see others using proper punctuation without a problem. What's the deal?

1. There is some flakiness going on in the forum software.

That is happening in posts in LBN, if you go back to edit.

I don't think there much you can do to fix this at the moment.

I would cite this in the 'Ask the Administrators' forum.

2. You could try using non-straight quotes: ‘ ’ “ ”

Example:

[div class="excerpt" style="display:inline-block; border:1px solid #bbbbbb; border-radius:0.4615em; box-shadow:-1px -1px 3px #999999 inset;"]I’m sorry that no one gave you a childhood, but can’t they have a childhood? - Patton Oswalt

3. The remaining problem is that it happens with hyphens as well.

The forum software hates me!

4. Your hyphen before 'Patton' looks fine to me

I just fixed my sig by using the ’ character Make7 suggested. Strange that an even more non-standard character displays fine, while the fairly standard one ( ' ) is causing problems.

7. Most programming languages use standard single and double quotes for denoting strings...

... so using those characters within a string often requires them to be escaped somehow or denoted by some numerical code equivalent. Non-standard quotes don't need to be escaped since they have no special meaning in programming syntax.

6. Well, you might try an en-dash ( – ) or em-dash ( — )...

... if the software is putting back-slashes before a standard keyboard hyphen/minus sign.

8. Go back and enter your sig again.

It should work now.
