Why would a member who I have never PM'd, and who isn't ignoring me, block PM's from me?

Seems odd.

1. How do you know you never PM'd them

But aside from that, no reason at all. A lot of this stuff goes on for no logical reason.

2. I've only PM'd very few people, and could still PM them since these showed up.

3. OK

Still, I wouldn't worry about it. This stuff goes on for no reason at all. You never know what will set someone off.

4. True. Not worried, just wondering if that serves any purpose other than

not allowing me to PM them.

It's kind of funny. It's like saying, "I don't like you so I won't let you wear my favorite shoes ever! Even if you did ask!"

But thank you!

5. Did you have an unpleasant

exchange with them? If you did, maybe they anticipated that you would try to PM them? Maybe they haven't posted 50 posts?

7. How would that work? How does blocking PM's allow you to track posts?

And thank you!

10. DUers have odd ways of remembering who is who.

8 DUers are blocking mail from me.
Everyone who I send PMs to are still answering me.

11. I think it's true for most of us

We recently had a discussion about this in the lounge and it seems that most people had 1 or 2 more people on PM ignore than POST ignore.

It's true for me too, even though I've never PM'ed anyone.

12. Between yesterday and a few minutes ago

The same thing just happened to me!

I have never initiated a PM on DU and am always polite when I answer ones sent to me, which I haven't had in a while..

I can't even recall the last time I mixed it up with anyone on the forum, if ever.

I don't know what I did. I bumped a thread in the feminist forum but everyone seemed fine with it.

Unless, someone is on an iphone or tablet and accidentally hit the "block PM's from this member" button???

If the person who blocked me is reading this, I'd be happy to clarify whatever it was I said or did. I'm quite an amicable person.

13. See the answers above:

it might be someone who finds your posts interesting, and this is a way to easily bookmark you.

Or, it could be that someone out there is too stunned by our brilliance, and can't take any more. Let's go with that one.

14. I've hit upon an idea

Most of us here are hugely to mildly annoyed when we are blocked for no visible reason. Why should that be? But some people might be too shy or fearful of a flame war to express to the offending poster what their issue is with their post. So they usually will just block the person without seeking any clarification that might otherwise have just required a simple exchange to clarify.

I'm going to propose an anonymous option, like the jury system, that allows a user to anonymously engage a possibly offensive poster to clarify their post so the other member can get more information before they make the decision to block or refrain from blocking them.

The suspected offending member will be sent a form letter saying something like "Hey, you better clarify that post!" as a signal that another member is considering blocking you for what you wrote in that post, and would you care to clarify?

The challenged member can either decline, if they don't care, and allow themselves to be blocked or send back a clarification that the other member will read and decide whether it was a misunderstanding and refrain from blocking or to proceed and block that member.

I would imagine from your "Let's go with that one." attitude you would be in the "I don't really care whether people block me" category.

15. It's a good idea. It would have to be

as you say, a form letter though, because any anonymous communication could be misused.

16. Exactly

I think this would promote a more cohesive forum because it would give people the chance to works things out with another member without fear of retribution and without posters being afraid to post because they could land on somebody's block list for a misunderstanding.

I really think members are fearful of posting in certain forums, like GD, because they don't want a public confrontation. This would be an option to have issues settled between members behind the scenes.

17. I think someone might

have indeed blocked pm's from me to save a thread. That's probably it because a person said they were saving the thread for later.
