(48 posts)I find it annoying patients still think I am a student when I am already graduated. So I want to know if most people think that way so I change my hairdo, have my hair-cut etc
When patients think I am younger than I am they try to take advantage of that, etc

If it is generally men and you are in the power role of doctor, it is probably hard for some men and they use you are a kid to relieve their tension and power dynamic. As we age the younger generation looks incredibly young. Reality. So suck it up and be professional.

(48 posts)Thanks, although I don't want to have power over anyone, or feel that men are enemies.
Another question, do you think I will look older and wiser if I have my hair cut? like this one:

(110,159 posts)you are asking the wrong woman. i do not follow conventional rule for any reason what so ever. not much when i was younger. and certainly not now. i think that looks like a fun haircut, and who cares how it is interpreted in your job. be professional, do well, and you will be fine.
and no... it has nothing to do what you want or not. just the dynamic of being the health provider with a person that is vulnerable gives it to you. use it wisely. that is all. doctor? i am talking blind here not knowing your position. but surely they talked about this in school.

(118,778 posts)took me in, sat me down, talked for a bit then started to examine my teeth. Yup. It was my dentist who had ushered me in. I was aghast at how ageist and sexist I had been. But I was sardonic about it. It was all on me though. It doesnt matter how you look. Whether you look young or not. Be yourself. And if someone tries to take advantage of you **** em. You dont want them in your life. Dont change your hair. Longer hair is so much easier to take care of. You just tie it up and go. It is not up to you to square anything about yourself with people who are not your peeps. You look professional.

(26,117 posts)Based on the jawline. But I'm certainly no expert.
I spent my teens passing for an older age (to get in to bars), but now I prefer when people think I'm younger than I really am. Go figure.
If you present yourself as a professional, you should be treated that way.
...and I second seabeyond's suggestion to post in the Lounge - I'm sure lots of folks there will tell you how awesomely young you look.

(18,641 posts)Or 28
or 42, since, from your question, you seem to be more mature than your photo.

(2,969 posts)And one photo can't really give a full impression. It's more a combination of the expression with the features, and not just the features in isolation. My guess is that if you were feeling happy and energetic, you could pass for early 20s. And if you're feeling careworn, you could probably look 45. I've noticed that my mood affects whether or not I'm carded when buying beer, and I'm 30.

That wouls make you about the same age as the FNP that my family and I go too. Regardless of age, we think she's great. I'm sure that your patients believe th same!
