1. There isn't, unfortunately. I'm sorry this happened to you. It's happened to me, too.
More than once.
I can't offer any advice other than to try to take it in stride and not personally. The jury members are selected randomly, there could be six great and sympathetic and thoughtful DU members on that jury. Or, there might only be two of them and the other four, well, they might be "different"! Welcome to the club! ![]() |

21. No rule, but it is considered rude.
And most of the time when a thread is zombied, the new post would have been better off as a starter in a new thread.

24. You need to go back and read the TOS you signed upon joining. "Free speech" on a privately owned....
....and operated discussion board is a bogus argument. Rules of civility apply here, as much as possible, and you agreed by signing the TOS.

22. Good question
Seems like someone's holding a major grudge and reached back nearly 3 years to find a fly-blown dead horse to beat.

3. Thanks.
Thanks for the quick replies. Shame there's nothing I can do. I'll just have to make sure I'm a good juror if I ever get the chance.

4. The trick is to say something like "I think you are mistaken"
or "I disagree with you" as opposed to calling someone a liar. It's pretty easy to avoid hidden posts by staying civil.

5. In my opinion...
In my opinion, it is uncivil to tell a lie. It is not uncivil to point out a lie.

7. Pointing out the lie is good and expected.
However, it is against the DU rules to call someone a liar. You need to attack the post, not the author.

9. Jury Decisions
Shouldn't a jury decision come after a person has a fair opportunity to present his/her case?

10. The post being judged is your presented case.
Keep it civil or take your chances with the jury.

23. Pick all the people with whom you have most vehemently disagreed. Chances are....
....those would be the ones you would not want judging you.
You can also ask the admins instead of criticizing how the place is run in open forum. |

25. The new system kind of sucks
but it is what it is. If it makes DU a little more civil, then great. But it is a lot less transparent and some of the game playing (e.g., people always voting their politics instead of the rules) continues to happen. Sorry it happened to you. As a fellow long time member, I am not always satisfied with how the rules are applied, but that's the way the cookie crumbles. Take it as a learning experience and move on. It will eventually drop off your profile page and you'll have a clean record.
