DU Community Help
Related: About this forumHow do I remove myself as a DU member ? (and no I'm not kidding).
I can't find any mechanism for that ,and emails to admins requesting that be done have gone unresponded to.

(102,238 posts)Sorry, couldn't resist. But seriously, just change your password to jibberish without writing it down and log out. Poof!
For all intents and purposes you are gone.
No other real mechanism unless you get yourself banned.

(11,936 posts)Is the temptation too great if your account is still accessible?
It seems to me like you are more intent on making a big dramatic, attention seeking production out of it. Otherwise, you'd act like a grown ass fucking person, log out and not come back.

(135,425 posts)You can go around and delete each one of your individual posts, then log out (changing password to gibberish, as someone else kindly suggested) and never return, or just stop posting.
If you do a search of DU, you'll find these instructions repeated to others dozens of times.
If you want to do a "Goodbye, Cruel World" post, just do one and don't be disingenuous about it. Expect to be mocked--GBCW posts usually are--but have your say and be done with it, if it means that much to you.
This is a rough-and-tumble discussion group; though not nearly as nasty as some of the unmoderated ones. If you don't have thick skin, and if you cannot tolerate differences of opinion that will undoubtedly arise in the Big Tent, you're better off making your exit.
Telling people to eff themselves? That's not helpful.
You could always run around spewing invective at your fellow DUers and get banned--that would close down your account irrevocably.

That...and avoiding GD.
But seriously, best of luck with your decision.

(7,658 posts)I no longer have any respect for the administrators of this site nor for far too many people here compared to when I joined. it's ridiculous that there isn't a simple mechanism for saying "I'm outta here".
MADem
(135,425 posts)Change your password to gibberish.
Get banned by insulting people.
That's how you can do it--now pick one and get on it. Stop whining. It's quite "simple" if you'd only get busy and just do it, rather than indulging in attention seeking conduct.

(53,956 posts)I wish you'd reconsider. I know it has been tough and the civility level is at a new low. Some are just taking breaks. I hope you consider that an option. If you disappear, it is simply one more voice silenced.

(7,658 posts)Keep up the good fight.I no longer want to be associated with DU whatsoever, but I guess I'm stuck on some level for all eternity. I want my voice to be silent here now. I don't argue with republicans and also have no stomach for dealing with all the jerks ( including some of the type you know I'm referring to) who have overrun this place, including the assholes who run it.

(7,318 posts)posting privileges when members have stated they are unhappy with the site. And calling them assholes would seem to qualify, so let me alert on this post and see if we can help you with your objective.
Sorry you are unhappy.

(8,311 posts)Of course, it'd be nice to avoid that, and I'm sure it's nowhere near as fun as people think it must be.
Wish you'd reconsider, but if there's no way to delete yourself.... hey, at least we're inclusive!
Take care of yourself whatever your decision ends up being.

(4,741 posts)Me, I'd either hand over my login creds to a random member here and ask them to change the password...or post them to reddit and tell them to have at. PPR in <5 minutes guaranteed!
cbayer
(146,218 posts)I guess the reddit solution would work if you want to go out with a bang! Me, I'd rather be remembered fondly after my GBCW.
I have also proposed putting this on a post-it and sticking to your screen:
DON'T POST ON DU OR THE KITTEH GETS IT
sir pball
(4,741 posts)Can't copy-paste the random one into the second field, either. And you could always use the lost password feature.
It seems that going out with a bang, or at least publicly, is the goal here though. Otherwise I'd imagine this would be in ATA.

(4,741 posts)But I have a lot of self-control when it comes to Interwebz discussion boards...they're just words on a screen, I can and have let go very easily

(7,318 posts)are financially important for advertising revenue. If there is no mechanism for members to delete their accounts, then membership numbers remain artificially inflated and thus garner more income (some churches do the same thing and it's frustrating).
Don't know if that is part of the reason here on DU, though. I'd hate to think so, but don't understand myself why they aren't allowing members to delete their accounts from this site. There must be some way to do that while still preserving former posters previous posts.
Did you ask why (nicely) in the Admin forum?
Mosby
(16,306 posts)Breaks can really help.
Lowering your expectations can make a difference, with DU3 I expect to see bigotry given a pass by a jury with no involvement by hosts or admins, so when it happens I don't get upset, at least not very much.
