can't get link button to work on posts -

To include a URL, I first click on "link" , then place my link in the popup window, then click on "/link", then click on message "preview" .... and no link included... what gives?

For just including a link as a web address, you only need to put the URL in your post and the DU software will turn it into a link.

For example, if you copy the text http://www.democraticunderground.com into your message text, when the message is posted it will become:

  http://www.democraticunderground.com

For making a word or phrase into text, use the [link] tag. Like this:

  [link:http://www.democraticunderground.com|Democratic Underground]

Will result in this:

  Democratic Underground

When using the link button as you described, before hitting the "/link" closing button you should enter in the text you want to assign the link to. An alternate way to do it is to select some text in your message and then hit the "link" button - that eliminates the need for the "/link" closing button. You can also just type the tag out as [link:url|text].

You should include the http:// portion of the link for the most consistent results. There are a few issues with some non-alphanumeric characters causing the links not to work here. See my previous thread about known issues with links here:
