Related: About this forumHello all. My name is Lochloosa.
My name comes from a song by a local group. You may have heard of them. J.J. Grey and Mofro.
This song is about the destruction of my beloved Florida. I grew up in the Panhandle of Florida and played on our beautiful Gulf beaches, explored the deep swamps and backwaters of some of the most diverse and beautifully mysterious parts of Florida.
I miss my it.
LOCHLOOSA by Mofro
Home sick but it s alright
Lochloosa is on my mind
She s on my mind
I swear it s ten thousand degrees in the shade
Lord have mercy knows how much I love it
Every mosquito every rattlesnake
Every cane break everything
Every alligator every blackwater swamp
Every freshwater spring everything
All we need is one more damn developer
Tearing her heart out
All we need is one more Mickey Mouse
Another golf course another country club
Another gated community
Lord I need her
Lord I need her
And she s slipping away
If my grandfather could see her now
He d lay down and die
Cause every minute every second every hour
Every day Lord she s slipping away
Home sick but it s alright
Lochloosa is on my mind
She s on my mind
Nice song.

(50,236 posts)I clicked on your link and loved it. The melody is beautiful and the lyrics very powerful. After listening to it, I went searching for more information about Lochloosa and found it is a wildlife conservation area, giving even more meaning, if possible, to the song. Thank you for posting the link.

(18,998 posts)And I know what you mean....I lived in Pensacola and came there in 1965...when you could actually see the beaches and the sand dunes and walk for miles along them and see nothing but what nature provided...and where you could catch fish and shrimp and crabs and were not afraid at all to eat them.
Great song by the way...

(16,061 posts)chopped up Delta 88, w/o my parents in the car. I think I was 8 or 9 at the time. Of course I had my older brother in the car with me. He was 11. LOL

(18,998 posts)You could do things like that then...my friend had a beach buggy made out of an old Renault and you could drive all the way from Gulf Shores to that fort that I can't remember the name of right now...across from Pickins.....we used to drive down their and fish off the jetty.
I haven't been there in 20 years or more but I don't suppose it got better..

(18,998 posts)In those days you could buy fresh caught mullet for 15 cents a pound and they would clean them for you...and I knew a guy with a shrimp boat and could get shrimp for 50 cents a pound....and would sometimes go fishing for red snapper with him.
Life was great then...in that respect anyway.
