Question about editing posts

Why do some edits generate an edit history message at the top of the post and others don't?

~bmus, member since 2004; I credit DU with saving what was left of my sanity after the 2000 and 2004 elections.

To see if a post has been edited, you can click on "permalink", unless it is the thread starter, then click on "thread info", both will then show the edit history. I will post, then immediately edit.
