2 officers shot in New Hampshire; search on for shooter

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — Two New Hampshire police officers were shot early Friday and a manhunt is underway for an armed suspect, police in Manchester said.

Police Chief Nick Willard said the two officers were shot at separate locations after 2 a.m., and they are recovering at hospitals and expected to be OK. Manchester Mayor Ted Gatsas said the officers, who were not identified, "seem to be fine."

There was no immediate word on the extent of the officers' injuries, and no details about the shootings have been released. Several streets were blocked off and police seen were walking around, but they did not appear to be going door-to-door.

Willard said police are searching for the suspected shooter, described as a white man with long hair who is wearing a trench coat. A Massachusetts state police helicopter is assisting in the search.

I guess that this gun owner could have drowned the two officers in a swimming pool, or stabbed them to death, or used a bow and arrow, but he didn't. He used a weapon designed for exactly what he wanted to accomplish as was his "right."

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — A man accused of shooting and wounding two police officers in New Hampshire's largest city is facing two counts of attempted capital murder.

Ian MacPherson, 32, of Manchester, was arrested early Friday after an intense three-hour pursuit. Authorities said he shot Officers Ryan Hardy and Matthew O'Connor. Hardy, 27, was hospitalized in stable condition; O'Connor, 28, was treated at a hospital and released.

MacPherson likely will be arraigned Monday. No bail has been set.

Police Chief Nick Willard said Hardy stopped MacPherson on the city's West Side around 2 a.m. Friday because he matched the description of a suspect in a gas station robbery the day before. MacPherson began to shoot at Hardy as soon as the officer announced himself, striking him in the face and torso, police said.
