Add your name: I support common-sense gun safety legislation

Federal law requires background checks on gun sales at licensed dealers, but guns can be legally purchased from unlicensed sellers – online, at gun shows and even from strangers in parking lots – without any background check, no questions asked.

Sign if you agree with Nevadans for Background Checks and Daily Kos: We need common-sense gun safety legislation.

According to the Pew Research Center, there is broad and consistent support for expanded background checks for gun purchasers amongst Americans. Eighty-five percent of the public – including large majorities of both Republicans (79%) and Democrats (88%) – favored making private gun sales and sales at gun shows subject to background checks.

Eighteen states and Washington, D.C., already require a background check for all handgun sales. In these states, 46 percent fewer women are shot to death by their partners, 48 percent fewer on-duty police officers are shot and killed, 48 percent fewer people commit suicide with guns, and there is 48 percent less gun trafficking.
