Sheriff: Gun shop owner shot, killed in Clermont County gun store during CCW class

AMELIA, Ohio -- A gun store owner was killed during a concealed carry class at his store Saturday afternoon, according to the Clermont County Sheriff's Office. County officials called the death accidental.

A participant in a class at KayJay Gun Shop shot 64-year-old James E. Baker in the neck at the 12:44 p.m., according to Sheriff A.J. Rodenberg. The class consisted of about 10 students at the shop on Lindale Mt. Holly Road, deputies said.

Deputies initially called Aircare to the shop, but Baker was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:12 p.m.

KayJay Gun Shop sells firearms, repairs and engraves firearms and has authorization to manufacture their own guns and ammunition, according to its website. The shop also has a Class C license, which means they can sell military-grade weapons.

Any death is a tragedy, and this gun shop owner's demise is no exception. The take away from this incident, however, is that guns are dangerous lethal weapons, and are very good at accomplishing their designed purpose: to kill (whether intentional or not). More guns = more deaths and injuries, even for "good guys" with guns.

for what happened here.

Although I'm quite amazed that the very first thing in that class wasn't to make sure all the guns were unloaded.

Isn't there some quote about live by the sword, die by the sword? By extension, can't I say live for guns, die from guns?

And I don't mean the site of Australia's last mass shooting that produced massive and effective gun control in that country.

Someday someone is going to massacre a bunch of straight white men at a stock car race even though some of them are armed. Likely it will be one of their own. Then we will see clamor to do something.

... a little immature is teaching a gun safety class and some jamoke in his class shoots his foot. Better that foot than a heart or another major organ. I wish my friend would destroy his guns. He's got children.

with a gun. Heck, a good portion of training is gun laws so you'll know when you can shoot an unarmed teen and what to say when authorities investigate.
