Jury returns guilty verdicts in Kansas gun case

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — A jury has found two Kansas men guilty of federal firearms violations in a case that repudiates a Kansas law that purports to prevent federal prosecution of anyone owning firearms made, sold and kept in the state.

A jury Monday evening convicted Shane Cox in eight counts for illegally making and marketing firearms. They found Cox not guilty in two other counts involving possession of a destructive device. Kettler was found guilty on one count for the purchase of a gun silencer from him.

U.S. District Judge J. Thomas Marten told jurors the case would likely be appealed because of the issues involved with the state law. Marten says he can’t change the law at this level, but he anticipated the U.S. Supreme Court might eventually review the case because the issues are this important.

These guys were making suppressors (aka silencers which really don't silence and only serve the purpose of making your gun longer--apparently a big deal for some gunners) and 'ghost guns' (guns without serial numbers). Because guns are so special Kansas passed a law saying that any gun made, trafficed and kept withing the state was exempt from federal law. Seems people with functioning brains disagree.

1. Colorado mother bought gun just before she, two small sons found dead

A Colorado mother bought a handgun hours before she and her two young sons were found fatally shot inside the family's minivan, authorities said on Thursday, adding that her wounds appeared to be self-inflicted.

While stopping short of calling the deaths of 38-year-old Jennifer Marie Laber, and her sons Adam, 3, and Ethan, 5, a murder-suicide, police said the recently-purchased 9mm Glock handgun was found inside the vehicle, and all three died from single gunshot wounds.

"We can't make that determination until the coroner completes toxicology testing, but you can read between the lines of what was released today," City of Lone Tree Police Department Sergeant Tim Beals said by phone.

A statement issued on Thursday by the Douglas County Coroner's Office said preliminary evidence suggested Jennifer Laber's wound was self-inflicted.

Suicide is a mental health issue according to the gun huggers, but their solution is to manufacture guns locally so that proven gun control methods which work at preventing some of these horrific events don't apply.

Would a reasonable waiting period before being allowed to leave the gun shop with a deadly weapon have prevented the murder of two young children and the suicide of their mother? There's no way to know for sure, but at least it would have given the mother time to think and reconsider. Sound reasonable?
