64 guns seized from home of killer in Ohio nursing home shooting

NEWARK, Ohio -- More than 60 guns were found in the home of a man who fatally shot his former girlfriend, her co-worker and a newly appointed police chief before turning a gun on himself, authorities said.

The guns were found Friday at the home of 43-year-old Thomas Hartless by sheriff's deputies and investigators from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation hours after the killings at a nursing home in Kirkersville, The Newark Advocate reported.

Kirkersville Police Chief Steven Eric DiSario died from a shotgun wound outside the nursing home. Nurse Marlina Medrano, who had previously sought protective orders against Hartless in connection with domestic violence cases, was shot multiple times with a handgun and a shotgun. Nurse's aide Cindy Krantz was killed with a shotgun.

He was not allowed to possess or own a firearm because of his 2010 felony conviction for abduction in Knox County, the newspaper reported.

Not allowed to possess or own...? And yet he managed to amass an arsenal of 64 guns from the porous black market, straw purchase, gun show parking lot gun bazar that is prevalent all across this country where gun control laws are lax or non-existent. Localities and states with dangerously loose gun control laws are not only a threat to their own citizens, but to neighboring states and communities.

Second Amendment absolutists and gun extremists are very much in step with the extreme right-wing of the Republican Party by presuming to speak for ALL Americans in order to further their selfish anti-social goals.

An armed society is a dangerous society, and the United States is a prime example of this fundamental fact.

I doubt he amassed 64 guns in the time period since he was barred from owning firearms.
But with that many, I'm sure at least a few were purchased after he knew was prohibited.

was in 2010. Seven years is more than enough time to black market purchase, borrow, straw purchase, or steal 64 guns.
