Just a personal observation of how loose things are

Just another loop hole......I knew they existed, but I've never experienced it before.

I put my motorcycle for sale on Craigslist today and one response was an offer of a trade. One item offered in the trade was a "Arsenal SGL21-63 AK 47 that only has 100rds through it and comes with 500rds of ammunition and five 30 round magazines and more".

I have no idea who this person is. I've heard of and have seen the trading of weapons between people who know each other, but never between strangers like this.

And no, I'm not even remotely considering this offer. It sucks that these type of weapons can be traded / exchanged so easily. Besides, I want the cash

Even if the gun was worth more $$$, I wouldn't take it.

This is the assault rifle they want to trade you:

The euphemism on Craigslist seems to be "things that go bang."

it was an eye opener for me. I got the same kind of the same comments from my coworkers that this was a pretty common occurancce, but it was more like "and how is this strange?"

He's got three man-sized safes full of weapons (rifles, handguns, submachine guns), plus guns stored in foot lockers, in cabinets, and out in the open around the house. ALL of his sales are 100% private, with zero documentation. He's a NorCal Tea Partier and he sells most of his weapons to/amongst that type of person.

My Dad is one guy.

I cannot imagine how many others like him are out there.

If he is selling FTF and circumventing the law he is serving as either a middle man in a straw purchase, or is operating as an unlicensed dealer, in obvious violation of Federal law. Also IF he is selling the SMGs you mentioned this is directly and unquestionably against the law, as taxes and registration must be paid on all NFA items.

If you're in New York, call the troopers or sheriff's office to set up a sting. There's so many crimes being committed here this guy'll be doing time for quite a while (A class B for the gun, a B for each mag, I think a D for the sale... that's, oh, something like a max of 25 years concurrent).

Even if you're in what the gun people call a "free state," run away, as you can't prove the gun wasn't stolen (and if it's missing the serial number or, in this case, an import mark, it's 10 years in the federal pen for your time).

Besides, I don't see what the fascination with AKs really is: It's an over-priced, inaccurate, hideously-ugly piece of horribly-finished stamped sheet metal you could make out of a shovel if you wanted to.

Craigslist is full of this shit. Other than a few situations (Like NY's new AWB), the only thing it violates is the Craigslist TOS and no laws (Assuming between people living in the same state). Chances are, this is perfectly legal.

I traded a pistol and some boot for a dirtbike on craigslist back in Feb, but the ad mentioned trades being welcome.

We both come away happy on the trade...except now I have to replace a 9mm to replace the one I traded.
