Targeting the NRA, new movie expose' (YAY!)

Harvey Weinstein and Meryl Streep to take on gun lobby with movie that will make NRA ‘wish they weren’t alive’Mega-producer revealed his plans to make a film to help battle the gun industry and the NRA
Said it will not be a documentary and will be big' like Mr Smith Goes To Washington

He also spoke about gun control that summer in the led up to the 2012 election, telling the Huffington Post: ‘If we don’t get gun-control laws in this country, we are full of beans. To have the National Rifle Association rule the United States of America is pathetic.’
He said that his intention is to make the movie such a condemnation of the use of guns in America that the ammunition industry would take a noticeable hit afterwards.
Weinstein said that people will be leaving the movie theater thinking 'Gun stocks — I don’t want to be involved in that stuff'.

I rarely go to movies, last was michael moore's fahrenheit early 2000's, but am going to make this one; you too I hope!
And also, but not directed at mr Weinstein, IT's ABOUT TIME we did this!!!!! (my dream is coming true!).

Second Amendment absolutists' main argument against the making of this movie is that Harvey Weinstein has made mega bucks from making shoot-'em-up movies like Rambo, and they don't see the irony in calling him a "hypocrite."

All Hollywood movies which include gun violence are based on the very real gun culture of the USA, which is celebrated by the ALEC/Koch Brothers funded NRA and its apologists. Of course Mr. Weinstein makes movies which include gun violence because that is an accurate reflection of our sick society. When an artist depicts real life, that doesn't mean that he or she agrees with the acts being depicted any more than a newscaster agrees with the story being reported.

The bottom line is that the very people who glorify and worship the almighty gun are attempting to vilify an artist who realistically depicts the fruits of their support for the unfettered proliferation of guns, by calling him a hypocrite for taking a stand against guns and gun violence.

Just another example of the twisted logic of attempting to defend the indefensible.

bill: The bottom line is that the very people who glorify and worship the almighty gun are attempting to vilify an artist who realistically depicts the fruits of their support for the unfettered proliferation of guns, by calling him a hypocrite for taking a stand against guns and gun violence.

If weinstein has knowingly directly invested in s&w or ruger or winchester et al, then he'd be hypocritical imo, for glorifying guns while bashing the gunnuts at the nra; just to portray guns as largely death machines in some pseudo realistic movies which stretch the imagination is not; his stance can be seen as a bit incongruous tho but he's no hypocrite.

(lifted from my reply at rkba bd): Richard Nixon escalated the vietnam war by conscription & sending hundreds of thousands of men & women there & equipping them with rifles & grenades & napalm for killing - then nixon said something like handguns should be banned in america - that didn't make nixon a hypocrite for arming american citizens with the best small arms available while concomittantly calling for gun control.

Weinstein saying, “I don’t think we need guns in this country.”

I don't think the world needs nuclear weapons, but I don't think they should be disallowed countries so long as others have them as well. {this is} his opinion about 'needing' guns in america. .. Many people would say Americans don't need tobacco/cigarettes, while not calling for a proscription. (so weinstein did not call for american gun disarmament as a few gn posters contended).

You all might already know of the name, but I just learned about it. (No link since it's a rightwing source with pejorative things to say).

jan 21, 2014: Speaking on the Howard Stern Show,.. the Hollywood super-producer said his upcoming film, titled "The Senator's Wife," "will expose the NRA for their behind the scenes machinations of what (President) Obama himself called 'intimidation' and 'lies' that ended up defeating legislation that would have expanded background checks on gun sales."
According to the blog, the film, which will star Oscar-winner Meryl Streep and others on the film colony's A List, will be "a behind-the-scenes account of how the NRA used its influence with politicians to defeat the bill."

And I hope security measures are first-rate---both for the production, and for the movie houses in which it appears. There are way too many heavily-armed lunatics wandering around, and this flick is likely to set them off, big-time.....
