Warren: Destroying ISIS should be 'No. 1 priority'

en. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) on Wednesday said that the Obama administration should make defeating the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) its top priority.

"ISIS is growing in strength. It has money, it has organization, it has the capacity to inflict real damage. So when we think about a response we have to think about how to destroy that," Warren told Yahoo's Katie Couric.
Warren agreed that "time is of the essence."

"We need to be working now, full-speed ahead, with other countries, to destroy ISIS. That should be our No. 1 priority," she said in a wide-ranging interview promoting her latest book, A Fighting Chance.

I disagree with her on this issue but I still want her to run or President because I agree with her on other important issues and she has a great grasp of what Americans need.

Has our Elizabeth lost your support on this one issue?

at this. She also favors measured responses, to include the sort that involve (often made-in-MA) technology over boots on the ground.

Bernie Sanders is on the same page.

push back on what has become a given in politics..allowing Wall Street to rule with
little to no significant consequences. On this issue, I fail to understand how we can
expect a different outcome from the idea that we can kill off extremism...it does
not work. If I dropped support for a politician based on any one single issue I
would not have anyone to vote for..so I do my best to evaluate on the larger good
that can be accomplished by their overall political platform. She may not run for
POTUS and I do not know if she would consider running with Senator Sanders if
he decides to run as a Democrat....if that becomes a reality, I would support that
ticket.

Everyone is calling this a new war.

Well, it's not. It's cleaning up some messes that the last wars created and now Bush is somehow off the hook?

Screw that.

because Obama had ended Bushs clusterfuck. Some of us have lost loved ones in this so called war on terror and to have to send them back in because Bush fucked Iraq six ways to Sunday is a little nerve wracking. I would like to see him tell the middle east countries, including Iran that we will advise them and offer them surveillance but that they must clean up their own area.

Just want to say I am so glad you seem to be doing better after your health scare.

Security reports the rest of us do not see. Yes the news reported the beheading of the two journalists and the isolation of the group on the mountain top but there is killing of the men and raping of the females and kidnapping of women for the troops pleasure. They are very bad.

My lord, where have we heard about unseen security reports before? Is Iraq that distant a memory? Warren is an Aipac-backed hawk who scoffed at criticism of bombed schools and hospitals and is now pushing for more dead innocents like the ones killed by recent bomb attacks in Syria...even though there is no clear plan how to eliminate ISIS

The generals are all pushing for ground troops, so don't be surprised if Democratic congresswomen and men (once again) get American troops and many more Middle Easterners killed with her martial bluster. That would be very bad.

Just want to say that no matter what Warren does or says, it will never be enough to get me to support Hillary.
The constant drip of Warren information brought to DU by those who seem to be Hillary supporters, pointing out where Warren agrees with Hillary, is interesting - I want to support someone who is Progressive, my support is not personality-driven.

Aside from the fact that "destroying ISIS" is not our job, folks....

aside from the fact that ISIS hasn't invaded, attacked, or otherwise stolen from the USA...

aside from the fact that those free-lance journalists were in a war zone in a country that didn't ask them to come....

Every time this nation sets out to destroy some other nation, it only succeeds in destroying itself. Take care of our domestic needs, let the Middle East take care of theirs. Sometimes, you have to butt out.

If they can do that we have wasted a lot of money on defense. Obama isn't stupid and he sure as hell won't ignore a breifing. Fly their flag over the WH. Unlike the previous occupants of the WH I would bank on the President and our First Lady kicking their asses if ISIL made it that far and walked through the door.

Seems that we are much more upset than many other countries. Maybe they are more used to seeing pictures of what war looks like and the savage methods of death. Here we don't see those kinds of pictures unless they can be used to woop up support for war.

even if someone gave me one. Also, I am very clear that no one is going to give me one, let alone the exact pony that I would choose if I were the pony picker/breeder.

I know there will be deviations from what I would love to see happen in D.C. so I don't have a checklist that I place side by side with a list of anyone's votes and speeches and cross people off my list when I see variances.

Although I am always leery of kabuki, I believe that Elizabeth ia smart, hard-working and honestly gave her very best shot at making student loans more affordable. Additionally, she speaks for the 99% against big business often. For me, those things alone will take her a long way. (Perhaps that is more a sign of my resignation than it is of my realism. Fine line.)

I do wish that we did not have so many barcalounger warriors in D.C. I also wish that Democrats and Republicans did not seem so bent on filling Congress with veterans as seats in the House and Senate open up. But, it is what it is.

IOW, no, this vote alone does not turn me against Warren. On the other hand, if I ever smell a love of kabuki theater, or chronic insincerity, or corruption, she will be toast in my mind. So far, I don't.
