Stanford sexual assault: students plan graduation protest as anger grows

Stanford sexual assault: students plan graduation protest as anger grows

Graduation would normally be a happy time for Stanford students, but the outcry over Brock Turner’s light sentence has shifted the mood

The rape survivor support group meeting at Stanford University on Tuesday started with birthday cake. But when the sweets were gone and the birthday song ended, the pain began again. “Did you guys want to talk about your feelings about the Brock Turner case?” one woman asked, shaken and emotional. “I’m feeling really sad and angry.”

Just days earlier, Turner had been sentenced to six months in jail, after being convicted of sexual assault and facing 14 years in prison. The former Stanford freshman was caught assaulting an unconscious woman behind a frat house dumpster in 2015. He blamed the school’s “party culture.” His father pleaded for leniency so “20 minutes of action” wouldn’t ruin his son’s life. The victim’s letter has been widely read and shared and the case has caused international outrage.

The two-hour support group meeting stretched into five. When it ended around midnight, the women had a plan: to protest Sunday’s commencement ceremony while the world was watching. In recent days, others both on campus and off have joined forces with them. There will be signs, bicycle billboards, a plane flying over campus pulling a banner. “Our focus is not pursuing offenders”, said Amanda Lorei, 23, who will be graduating on Sunday with a master’s degree in Russian, Eastern European and Eurasian studies, “but rather making campus safe and holding the university accountable.”

These are difficult times on the prestigious Palo Alto campus, where the endowment is huge, the grounds are pristine and buildings bear the names of wealthy tech donors – Hewlett, Packard, Moore, Allen, Gates. Graduation happiness is threaded through with shame, yearend celebrations are leavened with outrage.

Actually, I am done with “nuance” with these types. I already get nuance and used it in my life to brush off or excuse a slew of nuisances. But I have enough “data”.

Hey, I made a good faith attempt to try to see the pov of a collection of people and systems that are at this point beyond irredeemable.

Not because I bought into it. But, well..you have to give the benefit of the doubt some and then when you are certain that it is indeed misogyny and there is no other descriptor, time to pushback.

He fits that shithole like a glove:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Pentland

He was with the infamous Epstein connected MIT Media Lab which also had other sleazy people like that woman Rosalind Picard-this totally sleazy Intelligent Design supporting asshole who wrote an editorial in the NYT arguing that one should consider “rehabilitating” figures like Epstein.

Pentland is featured prominently in Shoshana Zuboff’s book on surveillance capitalism.

All the “science” these creeps do is vaguely sleazy, useless and spooky. They fit right in with those Maha creeps. Politically they are kinda like the NYT-mostly just self serving grifters who during the rise of those creepy giants Google and FB, were happy to throw IRB and informed consent aside.

These are the last people (along with their shady cronies in any part of the globe) who should work in psychiatry above all.

All the crap they work on is characterized by being: 1) useless and 2) creepy.
There are a collection of these grifters I have looked at in exasperation over the years: Ben Waber, Thomas Insel (awesome name!).
Most of them have some ties to those parasitic creeps at Google.

It’s a slew of worthless rot: emotion AI, lie detection etc. There was another of their fellow travelers who must be super popular these days, shilling some sort of AI border security thing-Aaron Elkin.

It is a collection of the most deplorable and awful people who muck around in the most useless crap imaginable.

I was amused and exasperated to see a brilliant description of Bill Ackman’s wife Neri Oxman who works in similar execrable shit by a critic whose name I can’t recollect but it was along the lines of : “ new forms of exploitation to unclear ends”.

That exactly fits this entire collection of creeps. They also have some in house “artists” like that creep of snarled traffic for Google.

My point is yet again as I posted in the “gaming forum, I have realized after some 14 years entrapped in parasitic systems built by this completely sleazy cabal that no decent human works with them. You either refuse all engagement fast or slow. But never by continuing to grift and do more of the same.

It’s not my bloody problem and I am filing all applicable complaints.
If it’s about the weed, I’ll contact the cops myself and it’s not legal to disclose my identity which I certainly won’t be sharing and it would be beyond myopic to dox me, claim I am insane or stupid etc. That shit doesn’t have legs forever

And stop bsing about the Internet changing the world etc. In the future keep to your own ilk of bullshitting morons and stay the fuck away from me.

Yes this post sounds crazy. No I am not.

I am just not a bloody grifter, influencer or whatever the fuck it is.

This is not why I went into science or what I expect from democratic societies and it’s not cute or funny.
It’s bloody embarassing.

My entire journal looks like a crazy person wrote it. That’s because I have other shit to do and truly no patience with these people or things.

I tried to keep it simple. Now I will have to file complaints and it’s annoying and exasperating but at least not a “story”, “product” etc.
Don’t get cute.
That applies to a subset of creeps out there.

And I will find out who at some point and trashy brute force bot or not tests on my street ensured harassment complaints.

This is the problem with having no idea how to behave absent rules and guildelines and it’s pathetic.
It’s reminiscent of those Jan 6 creeps uploading their photos to the web thinking their are making history.

On a long enough timeline all this shit falls apart. Do you think women would ever have had rights and what protections we ever had for the environment or humans came by because everyone joins mobs and the same old creepy shit wine in a new bottle somehow works? No.

Yoh will never be right when you have such a superficial grasp of reality.
I don’t care if I sound “crazy”. Most complainants do and this was in no way participatory.

I am very clear on such things.

Wrt the last 15 years and going forward until corrupt state officials, data scientists and AI scientists, random sleazy “researchers” etc are held accountable.
Actual activists, feminists etc are nothing like the pale imitation you find who treat Stanford, MIT, Google, woke capitalism (can you just say oxymoron) etc with respect instead of seeing them as sleazy and cultish. It’s totally inappropriate in any actually respectable (I don’t want to use the word ethical because somehow these creeps have made it sleazy).

Besides these are not even competent people. They are people who go with what the mob does and coerce other people. It’s not delusions of grandeur to see this shit as rubbish. It’s delusional to forget or not get the meaning of actual progress because “everyone does it”.

I have no sympathy for any of these people from the last 15 years and going forward.
Burn in hell creeps…

Participatory horseshit:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Participatory_sensing

There will be hell to pay for this and I don’t muck with civil litigation either.
15 years ago when all this shit was even less obvious it was one thing.
Insanity is repeating the same crap over and over. No more Ms Nice Guy and role playing “concern” over “seeming crazy”.

All activists and complainants are called crazy by conniving profiteering douchebags.
This isn’t over. It’s just starting.
