It was a little hard to follow, but the ending blew me out of the water.

It started out as a Dennis Lehane short story, was then developed into a movie screenplay, and finally, Lehane did a novella, based on the screenplay.

My favorite part of the short story/novella/movie: towards the end, when that detective looks at the character Tom Hardy portrays, chuckles and says "They never see you coming, do they?" Good stuff.
