Friday marks the arrival of the first Star Wars theatrical release since the loud, dumb headache that was 2019's The Rise of Skywalker. However, to the credit of Disney, in the year or two prior and in the intervening seven years, they have turned out some decent content via their various series. The Book of Boba Fett had its moments, and while neither Obi-Wan Kenobi or The Mandalorian were classics, they were entertaining and quite good at times. And as I haven't yet seen it I plan on starting Ashoka next week or so, and there's a season two to be released in 2027.
So, I did have some hope for the movie coming out Friday. That's been tempered a bit by the tepid response (so far) of the critics. Currently, it sits at 61% on Rotten Tomatoes. Not a death knell but also no reason to break out the confetti. As a fan who was disappointed by both chapters VIII and IX of the third (and supposedly final) trilogy , I was hoping for the franchise to rebound with their most recent offering, wanting the movie to be successful. And, it may still to my satisfaction after I view it next Tuesday. We'll see.
Any way, any other Star Wars fans out there, and are you planning on visiting the theater to see it or watch it once it hits streaming?

(6,680 posts)It should be a lighter crowd come Tuesday, though bargain day does usually show an uptick in ticket sales. Still, there will be less kids, thankfully.
Our local Googleplex is showing it in five different formats:
- 2.39:1 Anamorphic 2D
- 2.39:1 Anamorphic 3D (probably my choice)
- IMAX 2D
- IMAX 3D
- ScreenX 270 degree presentation
I've not seen an IMAX or ScreenX movie yet. I'm concerned either would be a headache-inducing experience. Strangely, the 3D doesn't bother me.
