I love the P.L. Travers books, and this new movie looks to be closer to the spirit and content of those.

Is your discontent based on an expectation that it would be more like the Disney movie with Julie Andrews? Or are there other reasons to be wary?

I realize it was set in London - but they overdid the 'fog'. A lot of the movie was shot at night and the sets were too dark.
I'm not sure that this was intentional to provide an ambience or if it was a problem with the theater we attended. I was disappointed it wasn't more colorful.
I wonder what kids thought of it because it didn't seem very Disney to me - and I was up for a fun filled Disney movie to get me out of my Trump funk. The story was heavy and not fun. The music was so-so but I didn't hear a breakout hit song in the soundtrack. Lin Manual Miranda and Emily Blunt did a good job but I think their talents could have been put to better use. Blunt is really a talented singer. Miranda - put in a good performance as well but I guess I expected more from both of them.

The last scene of the movie was the best part of the movie and the most colorful. I still think it could have been more colorful. Just seemed like too little - too late. I'm really sorry I didn't enjoy the movie. I'm curious of those of you that took your kids to see it and how your kids reacted to the movie. There were some young kids in the theater but I was struck by the fact that they kept running out for popcorn and refreshments. My assessment of that is that they weren't drawn into the movie to keep them in their seats - kinda bored.

a big fan of the original then you would be disappointed. This new one is bigger with bigger productions. The original is more charming with better songs. I used to dance every night with my daughter. She was Mary and I was Bert. When we went to Disneyworld and Mary Poppins waved to my daughter at the parade we will never forget it.

I do think people who were not so attached to the original will like this one.

My brother got to go into the other theater and watch Willard. So yeah, I was pissed then and still don't like the movie. The Mary Poppins movie wasn't even first run.

I won't be seeing it EVER.

It grossed 31 million and cost 6 million to make. It basically financed Disneyworld.

Worth seeing, especially if you grew up with the original. It makes you wonder why Disney didn't make a sequel years ago. Especially since there were a bunch of Merry Poppins books to draw ideas from.

Initially the story boards must have looked good, but when the train got rolling it set off on the wrong track.

Hollywood forgets there is always a great depth of artists who can create something utterly brilliant... if you just listen to them.

I get the feeling someone wasn't listening to these artists here. It seems this movie was produced by the very banker types it was purporting to poke in the eye.

Everybody went to work, did their job, but I was expecting much more than that.
