The Banshees of Inisherin : Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, directed by Martin McDonagh

I went to see this tonight and I have to say it was utterly mesmerising. Of McDonagh's previous work, I had seen In Bruges and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and of the 3 this was absolutely the best of the lot. I can't recommend it highly enough.

While it deals with dark themes, the story is laced with humour, the acting is top class (this is the best performance I have seen from Colin Farrell, while Brendan Gleeson is masterful (reminiscent of Richard Harris in The Field)) and the cinematography is amazing.

Barry Keoghan is a rising star who I am certain you will hear more from, as well as Kerry Condon (appeared in Better Call Saul).

Btw the bar owner and Gerry his customer are very well known here in Ireland, in their own right. For years they were a madcap duo called the D'unbelievables

It was much darker than expected, but still brilliant. Colin Farrell deserves an academy award for his performance. The woman who played his sister does, also. The movie shows Ireland's dark side. Small town bickering, holding grudges, lack of culture. Gorgeous cinematography. I laughed frequently along with much of the audience. My husband didn't laugh at all. Nevertheless, he loved it as well.

I agree about Farrell, it was the best performance I've seen from him. Kerry Condon was super too.

Small town Ireland can still be like that, a pastime is to interrogate the stranger to get a "fix" on who they are....Ah, I have you now !!!

and I completely agree with everything you have said. I loved it but it really was dark. It made me sad but that does not mean it was not wonderful.
