I remember life insurance being called the original scam:
Here’s the deal - you pay me while you’re alive, and I’ll pay you when you die.

2. I try to self insure as much as possible.

Home and car I keep large deductible. Life, saved enough for the funeral and a paid for house and some stocks for the wife.
I’ve been able to stay ahead because I never had kids and gave up on big boys toys years ago.
