This is only the ninth time a 2 has been beaten by a 15. So that doesn't happen every year.
12s have beaten the 5 seed 50 out of 140 tries
13 has beaten the 4 20 out of 140 games
and the 1 has been defeated once by a 16, so far.

Without in depth team knowledge, as in having watched games. Not necessarily an expert. All chalk (higher seed over lower seed) is the way to go. For me 7,8,9, and 10s have been the toughest games to pick.

Never for money just bragging rights.

Edit: these stats go back to '85 when the field was expanded to 64 teams.

What do you think about the new play-in games to make it 68 teams?

I kind of like it. Gets some bubble teams in.

They never really advance. It just makes the argument of who got left out vs who got in more monotonous. I get that it's a good pr move for the ncaa but the play in teams are just more fodder for the field. Most brackets are filled out with the play in games blank and people just pick from the rest of the named teams. Maybe that will change over the years but I like 'play good enough to get in and kick ass when you're there'. Leave it all on the floor.

The NIT used to be THE tournament but the ncaa really advertised and sold the NCAA tournament and it became the juggernaut that it is now.

Winning team on the horizontal axis, losing team on the vertical.

Prize amount depends on the round. I believe I have "0" winning/ "8" losing.
