Atlanta Hawks issue letter of apology to their fans and Atlanta

Following two embarrassing situations involving high level members of the organization, the Atlanta Hawks are now attempting to repair the relationship with their fans and the community in Atlanta. An email involving racially insensitive and offensive characterizations of African American customers by co-owner Bruce Levenson came to light a week ago when he essentially turned himself in and stated he'll voluntarily sell the team.

Then a recording of Hawks' general manager Danny Ferry saying offensive things about Luol Deng and his heritage surfaced following co-owner Michael Gearon trying to have Ferry removed from the organization. It's led to the Hawks being under the spotlight of a team culture in which offensive things about African Americans and Africans have been casually discussed. Hawks CEO Steve Koonin is now doing damage control and trying to get the Hawks' house back in order.

He's starting by issuing an apology letter to the fans and the city of Atlanta, which can be found on their website Hawks.com.
