UConn's Sarah Strong named Naismith Player of the Year

Sarah Strong was a consensus All-American as a freshman for the UConn women's basketball team. A year later, she's a national Player of the Year.

Strong was presented with the Naismith Trophy as the nation's top player Wednesday in Phoenix, Ariz., by the Atlanta Tipoff Club. It's the sophomore forward's second national honor as she was named the Player of the Year by the United States Basketball Writers Association last week.

The other Naismith finalists were UConn's Azzi Fudd, Vanderbilt's Mikayla Blakes and UCLA's Lauren Betts.

Former UConn All-American, national champion and assistant coach Shea Ralph of Vanderbilt won the Naismith as the Coach of the Year while Notre Dame junior guard Hannah Hidalgo was named the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year.
