A question about seeds and growing

I am new to all of this and also have a black thumb. I am signed up for a growing class but on a waiting list because it's the most popular one around. A few night ago a friend stopped by with some fine bud. He left a pinch on the tray and later when I was about to share some with hubby I noticed a seed in it.
Can I sprout this seed? If so, can someone share a good link with step by step instructions?

2. similar to what some I know do

I would hold the plate sideways and let all water drip and put in ziplock not sealed.Above the refrigerator in a cabinet where its a little warmer wouldn't hurt either. 3-5 days put em in rockwool ,coco,whatever your medium.

3. You will get any number of responses

My way which always works for me is to fold up the seeds in kitchen paper towel, place the paper towel on a saucer, wet it until it has soaked up all the water and then pop another saucer on top for darkness. Place it in a window seal for warmth and check daily until it has sprouted.
Depending on your temperature in one to two days they should sprout and at this point I plant them in a small pot(solo cup would work). Once there are 2 or 3 sets of leaves they go in a big pot with potting mix.
