Ask Wheaton, Illinois how that worked out for alcohol...

///////////////////

There were more places to buy liquor in Wheaton’s surrounding communities than any other Illinois community after Wheaton colleges Christians got city council to vote no on liquors in Wheaton.

However, it will still be legal to possess and privately use pot in those towns. There will simply be no sales (and subsequently, no tax revenue).

I expect attitudes will change when the world doesn't end, and towns with dispensaries are benefiting from pot income.
