Alright let's hunker down together and watch this thing play out.No matter what, win or lose, this is only the first contest of many. Should we falter here, we'll know how much harder we need to fight.
And, should we win the night? We celebrate! But only for a moment. Then we keep going!
As of this very moment, THOUSANDS of our fellow Iowan Berners are entering the doors of their caucus precincts. Our prayers and thoughts are with them in this moment. For we are all in solidarity. For Bernie!
Here is a live Interactive Map with which we can watch the results come in in real time!

(6,282 posts)I am honestly afraid of what happens if Bernie loses. To my mind Hillary begins slipping rightward as soon as she is nominated. When you get to the general election she would be unrecognizable as a democrat.
I hoped Bernie would push her left, but i am not encouraged. She appears to simply have hunkered down recently and gone into attack mode rather than tweak her platform to the base.
I am so sad if Bernie doesn't win this thing. Our country is in grave danger tonight.
retrowire
(10,345 posts)This is only one battle of many.
If Bernie wins, then that's a huge hit in Clinton, a HUGE rise for Bernie.
But if Bernie loses, it's really a small hit to his numbers and a small rise for hers.
If he were to lose, it's likely because people still need to know him. Brace yourself! No matter the outcome, Bernie will be fine and the contest is not won yet.
JonLeibowitz
(6,282 posts)I just promised myself I was donating $100 tonight regardless of the outcome. Bernie needs the money to keep fighting.

(10,345 posts)And this is my first primary ever as well! I've never voted before in my life! Bernie is the first to inspire me to actually get involved. And you know what? I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE.
Bernie's biggest strength is those that are the least polled by the pundits. The FIRST TIME VOTERS!
And we're already hearing reports of unprecedented voter turnout this very night.
I have a good feeling. If Bernie's rallies show up to caucus, it's a hands down, no contest win.
Go Bernie!

(22,949 posts)DEMOCRATS HAVE 44 DELEGATES AT STAKE
Iowa Democrats award delegates proportionally, based on the statewide vote as well as the vote in individual congressional districts.
Candidates must get at least 15 percent of the statewide vote to win any statewide delegates. They must win at least 15 percent of the vote in individual congressional districts to win the delegates allocated to those districts.
The threshold could be a problem for former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, who is polling below 15 percent in pre-election polls in Iowa.
In a tight contest, it is possible for two candidates to split the delegates evenly.
There are 4,763 delegates to the Democratic National Convention, so it takes 2,382 to win the nomination.

The hall was full to the point where fire regulations were in question. So he announces that we are going to caucus outside. an hour goes by and we're still sitting.
At this point he announces that everyone who is sure of their vote is going to file out the door and tell it to an organizer and then go home. Both the bernie and clinton organizers claim this is incorrect. 45 minutes go by.
At this point many people, most first time caucus goers, were leaving. The man still refused to start counting votes. He claimed everyone could film him if they wished.
I think you all can guess what happens next. People start filming him. Not only does he refuse to go on record, not only does he refuse to state his name, but he attempted to get the (multiple) people filming kicked out because they were "independents".
Finally a pregnant caucus-goer takes control of the entire situation. The result: 16.1% clinton 84% sanders. If the caucus had been at the correct time, I'm confident it would have been a no-contest sanders victory.

(1,589 posts)Small town (just over 2,000 people). We were D precinct 1 in Jackson county. 140 people there.
72 for HRC
63 for Bernie
5 or 6 for MOM
Because they didn't have enough people to be viable, I think a couple of the MOM's came to Bernie's camp and the rest went to HRC. I didn't get the exact tally at the end, but I think HRC had 4.4 for the delegate count and Bernie had 3.7. Almost all of the young people were with Bernie. As for the crowd as a whole, it was mostly young people and older people (more older people than younger). Not a lot of the 35-55 crowd.
