I'm of the Caucasian persuasion but bilingual in Spanish. From time to time, I take the opportunity to interact with Hispanics who speak little or no English, especially people born in México and Central America. The last time was at an Ash Wednesday worship service in a residential area northeast of the Las Vegas Strip.

Whether they are in the USA as tourists or newly arrived to work, do you know what many, if not most, of them have in common? The absence of guile. They are sincere to the core and, in most cases, represent the best of humanity, unpresumptuous and placing family as their top priority.

Bernie's attraction for many of them, I have concluded, is his honesty. He is an accomplished public servant but still a man of the people who has managed to remain grounded even as he has achieved a high station in our society.

Sincerity recognizes sincerity!
