Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumBernie Sanders is a modern day George Washington
in that I don't think he particularly wants to be president, and when I say "wants" I'm getting at the idea that I don't believe for a second that he relishes power for power's sake. He's not doing it for his own ego, as I think most people who strive to be president are just sort of are doing it for themselves. No, I think he recognizes that he is needed and is running in service to his country. I'm in awe of this man.

(2,097 posts)It's not Washington, by any means. Washington was the richest man in the colonies, and made his money through land speculation to boot. If he were alive today, he'd be part of the billionaire class Bernie is taking on.
My first thought was Eugene Debs, but Debs' run for president was his first foray into politics after a lifetime of union organizing. Bernie's a lifelong politician. So that's not quite right.
No, if there's any historical comparison, it's either to Fighting Bob La Follette or Henry Wallace. And that's damned inspiring in and of itself.
