Bernie Sanders ARREST RECORD Revealed

In Chicago, Sanders threw himself into activism—civil rights, economic justice, volunteering, organizing. “I received more of an education off campus than I did in the classroom,” Sanders says. By his 23rd birthday, Sanders had worked for a meatpackers union, marched for civil rights in Washington D.C., joined the university socialists and been arrested at a civil rights demonstration. He delivered jeremiads to young crowds. The police called him an outside agitator, Sanders said. He was a sloppy student, and the dean asked him to take a year off. He inspired his classmates. “He knows how to talk to people now,” said Robin Kaufman, a student who knew Sanders in 1960s Chicago, “and he knew how to do it then.” He was a radical before it was cool.
...

The civil rights movement also became a home for him. He became leaders of an NAACP ally called the Congress of Racial Equality at a time when most civil rights activists were black. He was arrested while demonstrating for desegregated public schools in Chicago. (No big deal, says Sanders: “You can go outside and get arrested, too!” he jokes. “It’s not that hard if you put your mind to it.”) He once walked around Chicago putting up fliers protesting police brutality. After half an hour, he realized a police car was following him, taking down every paper he’d up, one by one. “Are these yours?” he remembers the officer telling him, holding up the stack of the fliers.

One was an over-privileged, over-inebriated moron whose daddy always bailed him out whenever he ran afoul of the law.

The other -- by these accounts -- was arrested for taking a stand for justice, when there was so much injustice in the world.

Please, let's compare him to Mohandas K. Gandhi, Martin Luther King and others who stood up for what's right.

I think Bernie could do a better job of communicating his record and it would be fair to ask him to do a better job, what is not fair is to completely ignore his record and focus on attacking him when their own candidate has not been nearly the leader on civil rights issues that Bernie has.

HRC has an anti-minority record in general. She was for mass incarceration/tough on crime/three strikes and the war on drugs to appeal to white voters against scary black people; she is on video as being against immigration and "illegals." Her 2008 campaign reached unknown heights for racist dog whistles. So to attack Sanders on this is ridiculous frankly because it just brings hers out.

And you will notice that the most strident screamers about black men being shot! are not themselves of swarthy hue. They are using it as a campaign strategy which is even more insulting. And they will scream down any PoC who disagrees with them too. It's a great campaign strategy and I hope the McCaskills keep it up.

A large part of their analysis was Obama did better with minority voters. So this time around she's gung-ho on minorities. She has an excellent plan to fight the previous battle.

What baffles me is the people who can't remember allllllll the way back to 2008. Much less back to 2001. But they can totally remember what she did before becoming First Lady, and that is considered way more important than her last campaign or her time in the Senate.

(I expect to get a laundry-list of "co-sponsored" legislation, where she signed on after someone else did the heavy lifting)

They've been building this strategy since losing in 2008. And then they must have seen some polls that made them think putting on her best Warren impression is the way to go. Hillary is running to the left of Hillary and it is somewhat embarrassing. McCaskill's attack from the right was much more realistic. But I guess they now have O'Malley to attack from the left. It might work, we'll see.

The article is kind of crappy and negative. But it has some bright spots like this:

In his second year at college, Sanders made national news. On a frigid Tuesday afternoon in January, 1962 the 20-year-old from Brooklyn stood on the steps of University of Chicago administration building and railed in the wind against the college’s housing segregation policy. “We feel it is an intolerable situation, when Negro and white students of the university cannot live together in university owned apartments,” the young bespectacled student told the few-dozen classmates gathered there. Then he led them into the building in protest, and camped the night outside the president’s office. It was Chicago’s first civil rights sit-in.

Warner C. White, a white minister who was a civil rights activist in Alabama and Mississippi, said during an interview:

White's band of clergymen were never attacked. Did his skin color offer him protection?

"Oh no — I don't think so, at all," he said. "Lots of white people were attacked. Heavens: look at the number of murders there were back then."

Was he ever fearful for his safety?

"Yes, absolutely."

Where was that?

"Back in Chicago," White answered. "That's where I met the real hostility from whites."
