As somebody who is 100% pro-Israel, in the long run and this is not going to be easy, God only knows, but in the long run if we are ever going to bring peace to that region which has seen so much hatred and so much war, we are going to have to treat the Palestinian people with respect and dignity.

SANDERS: So what is not to say to say that right now in Gaza, right now in Gaza unemployment is s somewhere around 40%. You got a log of that area continues, it hasnt been built, decimated, houses decimated health care decimated, schools decimated. I believe the United States and the rest of the world have got to work together to help the Palestinian people.
That does not make me anti-Israel. That paves the way, I think
BLITZER: Thank you, Senator
SANDERS: to an approach that works in the Middle East.

I so-o-o-o-o agree with this!
Jimmy Carter tried. The U.S. war machine wouldn't have it. They and the Israeli war machine undid his work. He is still speaking the truth, though.
He was RIGHT. And now it's a new day. The American people are absolutely sick of the costs of war in the ME, and are feeling the utter drains of its costs every day in every way. And Sanders is RE-INTRODUCING the notion of the U.S. as an "honest broker" in the ME, not a war monger and war maker.
I have ALWAYS thought this: That the safety of Israel can only be guaranteed with peace--both between Israelis and Palestinians, and in the region. But our MIC and our oil interests would not allow it. To put it another way, if it takes the U.S. war machine to guarantee Israel's safety, Israel is NOT safe. True safety can only come from diplomacy--real diplomacy that acknowledges the humanity and the human needs of all sides.

I'm not saying that sarcastically either.
It's great to see some truth being said at the highest echelons of power in America. Not by, but at.
