While Hillary performs a little better with registered Dems, she is trailing Bernie by large margins when it comes to the independent voter

Yes, I understand the DNC policy during the primary is to let registered Dems pick our nominee BUT the primary season is just about over. In the GE, party affiliation does not matter. IF we want to beat Trump (or Cruz) in November, don't we need the candidate that will get the most votes? Newsflash - that candidate is not Hillary.

(25,699 posts)There will be no useful amount of crossover in the GE. Republicans hate Clinton - and Democrats in general - more than they dislike Trump... and Republican voters don't actually dislike Trump all that much. Independents are the key to 2016.
Buuuut Clinton doesn't even seem to have any interest in bringing her whole party with her in November, much less trying to get independent voters on board. She and her folks clearly believe that they can win with the primary voters alone.
