NEW POLL: SANDERS LEADS CLINTON BY 8 POINTS IN WEST VIRGINIA, The Hill, May 3

- Poll: Sanders leads by 8 points in West Virginia, The Hill, May 3, 2016.

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders leads front-runner Hillary Clinton in West Virginia's Democratic primary, according to a new Public Policy Polling survey.

Sanders has 45 percent support, with Clinton taking 37 percent. According to the poll, 18 percent of voters are undecided.

Among those who are undecided, Sanders is viewed favorably by 15 percent, and Clinton is viewed favorably by 12 percent.
Clinton is leading among registered Democrats in the state, 43 to 41 percent. Sanders holds a large lead over the front-runner among independents, 56 to 19 percent.

Clinton leads with liberals, but Sanders leads among moderates and conservatives.

In West Virginia, 79 percent of Clinton's voters are firmly committed to her, while 65 percent of Sanders voters are firmly committed to voting for him.

Both Clinton and Sanders lose in general election match-ups in the state. Republican front-runner Donald Trump leads Clinton 57 to 30 percent and Sanders 56 to 35 percent.

The poll was conducted among 1,201 West Virginia voters from April 29 to May 1. The margin of error is 2.8 percentage points overall. Among the sample of 637 likely Democratic primary voters, the margin of error is 3.9 points.

West Virginia holds its primaries on May 10. The Democratic primary carries 29 pledged delegates.
