http://readersupportednews.org/opinion2/277-75/36778-bernie-sets-his-sights-on-transforming-the-democratic-partyIf Bernie Sanders falls short and doesnt win the Democratic Party nomination, he isnt going to be brushed aside like past runner-ups at the Democratic convention. Not since Jerry Brown in 1992 has a candidate come into the convention with an agenda for changing the Democratic Party. Howard Dean had his 50-state strategy, but his reforms were not as transformative as Bernies.
The battle for the soul of the Democratic Party has begun. If Hillary Clinton is smart, she will not attempt to stop Bernies reforms. 2016 is about changing the status quo. If the political revolution is ignored by the party establishment in Philadelphia this July, many Sanders supporters will vote third party or stay home in November.
Those who are calling for Bernie to drop out and campaign for Hillary Clinton dont understand what the Sanders campaign is all about. Bernie and his supporters want to change the system. They are tired of a rigged political process. It would be a mistake for them to surrender now without putting up a fight for change.
The Democratic Party establishment should be listening. The lesson they should have learned from this years election is that they have lost touch with a significant portion of their base and Independents. Bernies success should be seen as a wake up call. Reforming the party with Bernies guidance will go a long way toward rebuilding trust with Democratic and Independent voters.
Too many voters feel both parties are bought and paid for by the one percent. The political revolution is about changing that. It is not enough to pay lip service to political reform. The Sanders army will need to see real action before they will commit to supporting the party again.

(3,544 posts)corrupt as our political system. Actually I think the media is worse.
It's sickening watching this whole election cycle, and all the corruption. Its soooooooooo damn obvious what they are doing. And still nothing is done. NOTHING!!!

(32,047 posts)I think Bernie sees the Democratic party as a vessel that was once progressive and could be again. That is the America he grew up in and I saw a little of what remained in the 1960's-70s (Pre-Reagan Coup as I call it). But I also don't see him being rolled over by the Dem party and assimilated into the 3rd way. So we'll see how it plays out. He may have to build an independent organization outside of the party.
As far as "If Hillary Clinton is smart, she will not attempt to stop Bernie's reforms" - this assumes that she will be in a position to do so. I'm not willing to cede that point yet. There are still many states to go and a convention to get through (with an FBI investigation looming in the background). This is not a done deal for her. If it were the calls for Bernie to drop out would not be so loud. They wouldn't need to be shouting.
