RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) - When word got out that US Senator Bernie Sanders was coming to South Dakota, KOTA Territory supporters started to “feel the Bern.”

"Bernie's coming to Bern Rapid City down and what's going to be left is this whole new feeling of hope. And, a different mindset going into politics,” Karin Eagle, a local Bernie Sanders supporter, said.
Eagle isn’t the only one excited.

"This rally can really energize and galvanize and get everybody to see how many of us here there really are," Adam Christianson, Bernfest event manager, said.

In an area that typically swings more conservative some sanders supporters were even surprised.

"I was actually kind of skeptical because we are a small fish when it comes to the primaries especially when we are on the same day as California so it is really exciting that he is actually coming,” Ben Villa, a local Bernie Sanders supporter, said.

No matter where you fall on the political scale, some say having a rally with a potential presidential nominee is exciting.

" I think it's great because it falls in the great tradition of those old rallies that have been a part of the political system since Teddy Roosevelt came out here in 1912 and barnstormed the black hills and gave a speech at the Franklin Hotel,” Bill Walsh, democratic activist, said.

Even though Hillary Clinton is currently beating Sanders , the presidential hopeful says he'll fight until the end—which means even going to one of the more conservative areas in the country to gain support.

"I want you all to know that this campaign will fight for every remaining vote in every remaining state,” Senator Sanders said.
